can i collect unemployment and social security at the same time?

After 9 years my employer has closed and I lost my job. I will be 66 in a month, can I file for unemployment now and still receive my social security starting next month? Will one affect the other? What should I do?

Social security does not count unemployment as income. Most states allow you to receive both, some offset unemployment payments by social security payments.
